About the Business
David Bellis Consulting Surveyors was formed in 1972 when Mike Bellis, a former Estates Manager and Chartered Surveyor with over 20 years experience at the Coal Board, moved into independent practice. Mike used his wealth of experience in dealing with mining subsidence legislation and the settlement of claims made under that legislation at the Coal Board in order to provide support to individuals and companies requiring independent mining surveying expertise.
Mike Bellis association with the coal industry can be traced back to his father, also a mining surveyor.
Over a period of time it became clear that there was a need for a simple mining report that could be used in property transactions in order to minimise the risk for purchasers of property in coal mining areas. In response to this need the practice began to produce coal mining search reports and this remains a main stay of the current David Bellis Consulting Surveyors business.
